Neurobiology Antibodies for Neurotrophic Factor Research

Icosagen provides a focused portfolio of neurobiology antibodies for studying neurotrophic signaling, synaptic plasticity, ER stress and cytoprotection, receptor biology, and neurodegeneration-related mechanisms.

The portfolio includes mouse monoclonal, rabbit polyclonal, and chicken polyclonal antibodies against neurobiology targets such as BDNF, CDNF, MANF, GDNF, ARTN, and GFRα2. Available products support ELISA, Western blot, immunofluorescence, and selected immunohistochemistry (IHC) workflows, depending on the individual antibody.

All products are intended for research use only. Application-specific optimization is recommended for each sample type and detection workflow.

This is an overview of Icosagen's high-quality neurobiology biomarker portfolio.

BDNF – Synaptic Plasticity and Neuronal Function

Icosagen’s BDNF antibody portfolio includes three mouse monoclonal clones: 3C11, 4C8, and 3B2. The portfolio provides researchers with multiple monoclonal antibody options for BDNF detection. Clone 3C11 preferentially recognizes a central region epitope of human BDNF spanning amino acids Ser145-Lys153, while clones 4C8 and 3B2 expand the available clone selection for BDNF-focused assay development and optimization.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is one of the most widely studied neurotrophins in the mammalian nervous system. BDNF is widely studied in neuronal survival, neurodevelopment, dendritic remodeling, activity-dependent synaptic plasticity, learning, memory, and neurodegenerative disease research (Waterhouse & Xu, 2009).

BDNF detection can vary with antigen source, sample preparation, expression system, and assay format. BDNF occurs in precursor and mature forms with different biological interpretations, making antibody selection and assay specificity particularly important when comparing BDNF-related signals across experimental systems (Olivas-Martínez et al., 2025).

CDNF/MANF –ER Stress Regulation and Cytoprotection

Icosagen offers polyclonal and monoclonal antibody options for CDNF and MANF, enabling researchers to compare broad polyclonal recognition with clone-defined monoclonal detection. The CDNF portfolio includes a rabbit pAb and mouse monoclonal clones 7D6 and 6G5, which recognize the N-terminal and C-terminal regions of human CDNF, respectively. For MANF, Icosagen provides a rabbit pAb and mouse monoclonal clone 1G12, providing multiple reagent formats and clone options for CDNF and MANF research.

Cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor (CDNF) and mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) are endoplasmic reticulum-resident, cytoprotective trophic factors. They are studied in endoplasmic reticulum stress biology, unfolded protein response regulation, inflammation, cellular survival, and dopaminergic neuroprotection. Their biology is particularly relevant to ER stress and UPR signaling, Parkinson’s disease-related mechanisms, and broader neurodegeneration research (Jäntti & Harvey, 2020; Pakarinen & Lindholm, 2023).

CDNF and MANF are homologous members of the same protein family, making
antibody specificity, epitope region, species reactivity, and antibody format important considerations when selecting a detection reagent. Studies may involve recombinant proteins, transfected cell models, neuronal research systems, and tissue-derived samples. Comparing polyclonal and clone-defined monoclonal antibodies can help researchers evaluate recognition patterns and select reagents appropriate for their experimental objectives (Jäntti & Harvey, 2020; Pakarinen et al., 2022).

GDNF Family Signaling Antibodies

Icosagen provides antibodies against GDNF-family ligands and a receptor-associated target, including GDNF clone 3C1, ARTN clone 1F3, and a GFRα2 chicken pAb. Together, these antibodies provide reagent options for studying GDNF-family ligands and receptor biology across a range of experimental systems. The portfolio combines clone-defined monoclonal antibodies for GDNF and artemin detection with a polyclonal antibody targeting the GFRα2 co-receptor. The GFRα2 antibody is reported to react with human GFRα2 and not with human GFRα1, GFRα3, or GFRα4.

GDNF-family ligands and GFRα co-receptors are widely studied in neuronal survival, differentiation, migration, neurite growth, axon guidance, and central and peripheral nervous-system development. Their signaling biology includes canonical GFRα/RET receptor complexes as well as RET-independent mechanisms involved in neuronal connectivity and plasticity
(Airaksinen & Saarma, 2002; Ibáñez et al., 2020; Conway & Kramer, 2021).

GDNF-family studies frequently require detection of both soluble neurotrophic ligands and receptor-associated proteins. Antibody selection should consider target biology, antibody format, antigen conformation, and experimental context. Because GDNF-family ligands and their receptors participate in interconnected signaling pathways, reliable target-specific detection is important when comparing expression patterns and biological responses across different model systems (Airaksinen & Saarma, 2002;
Ibáñez et al., 2020; Conway & Kramer, 2021).
